Gum disease besets people of any age, it can affect adults and even teenagers. When a person has gum disease they experience an inflammation in the gums. Bacteria is the major cause of gum disease development. The gum condition may not first experience any warning signs and symptoms, unlike in the advanced stage that a sufferer may have persistent bad breath, red, swollen and bleeding gums that tend to be painful and swollen. Tooth loss may eventually occur if gum disease is left untreated. It can also lead to a serious health diseases. Gum disease prevention may include reversing it through proper brushing and flossing, regular dental check up, eating a balanced diet and quitting smoking and tobacco use.
